Testing

Testing

Course Insite® allows you to take tests for your class on the web. If the class author has prepared online tests, Course Insite® will administer the tests, grade them and keep track of which tests you have completed.

Levels of Testing

There are three types of tests in Course Insite®. A class may contain any one, all or none of these types of tests:

  • Review Questions—Review questions cover single pages and do not affect your grade, but are useful for self-evaluation.
  • Pre-Tests—Pre-tests cover modules or sub-modules and are designed to be taken before class material is viewed, to give you an indication of your existing knowledge of the subject matter. If you pass the pre-test you will get credit for the post-test as well, and if you fail there will be no penalty, so taking pre-tests is wise.
  • Post-Tests—Post-tests cover modules or sub-modules and are designed to be taken after class material has been completed. There may be post-tests at both module and submodule levels. Before recieving a passing score for an entire class, users must pass all the post-tests for the class.

Taking a Test

Complete the following steps to take a test:

  1. If you are not already on the class Table of Contents page, in the Course Tools menu, select the Take a Test option to see the class Table of Contents.
  2. Click on the appropriate icon directly across from the part of the class for which you want to test. See the Test Icons Table for more information on the icons. Once you click the icon Course Insite® will display the Test Instructions page.
  3. Read the Test Instructions page. The course author or instructor can define many different aspects of a test including time limit, percentages required for passing, restrictions on the use of the memo pad or class material, and limits on the number of times a test can be attempted. The instructions explain the specific requirements for a test.
  4. At the bottom of the Test Instructions page, type your user name into the User Name text box.
  5. Type your password into the Password text box.
  6. If you are certain that you want to begin the test now, click the Take Test button to see the first question.
  7. Answer the question by selecting the option button next to the correct answer or checking all the boxes next to correct answers. If your class administrator has allowed it, you can choose Unsure and Course Insite® will give you an opportunity to change your answer if you have time at the end of the test. Do NOT use your browser's Back button to go back to previous questions,or you will have to retake the test from the beginning.

Note: If your class administrator has allowed it, you may provide feedback for a question by typing a message into the text box at the bottom of the question page. Feedback will not effect your score.

  8. When you are satisfied with your answer and feedback, click the Submit Answer button to go to the next question.

Note: If there is a time limit for the test, Course Insite® will display it at the top of the page and update it after you answer each question.

  9. Complete steps 7 and 8 for each question on the test. Course Insite® displays how many questions are left on the test on each question's page. When you have answered the last question you will see a page where you can correct answers and finalize your test.
  10. You can change your answer to any question if you have the time, whether you answered the question Unsure or chose an actual answer. Complete the following steps to change the answer for any question:
    1. Select the option button next to the question for which you want to change the answer.
    2. Click the Change Answer to Selected Question button to see the question page.
    3. Answer the question by selecting the option button next to the correct answer or checking all the boxes next to correct answers.
    4. When you are satisfied with your answer, click the Submit Answer button to return to the finalization page.
    5. Repeat steps a through d for each question for which you want to change the answer.
  11. When you are satisified with all your answers, click the FINALIZE button. Course Insite® will display your grade and instructor comments as well as a table showing your answers, whether or not they were correct, instructor feedback and a reference to where the question was covered in the class. If you have passed all the tests in a course, Course Insite® will display your certificate of completion and your status for the course.
  12. Click the Go to Table of Contents link to return to the class Table of Contents.
