Using the Class Catalog

Overview

The Class Catalog lists all the classes in the Course Insite® system for which you can register based on the groups to which you have been assigned. The catalog supplies all the information about each class that a student needs to know and allows you to register for classes. See the Registering for a Class topic for more details on how to register. You can also access the User Tools Menu from the Class Catalog.

 Accessing the Class Catalog

To access the Class Catalog:

  • From your Class Portfolio, click the Class Catalog button in the menu bar.
  • From the Login Page, click the Class Catalog link to see a limited Class Catalog before logging in.

Viewing the Class Catalog

Course Insite®displays different pieces of information for different course types. For example, a web-based class doesn't have a location, but an instructor-led class does. The following explains each each piece of information for each class in the Class Catalog:

  • Course Name—The name of the class.
  • Introduction—A short description of the class.
  • Categories—Course Insite® administrators can define categories for classes, such as "Mathematics" or "Customer Service". Course Insite® lists the categories assigned to this particular class here.
  •   Course Type—The type of class as follows:
    • WBT—(Web-based) This class has online content and may have tests.
    • ILT—(Instructor-Led) This class is taught live. Click on the class name or info icon for its location and time.
    • EXT—(External) This class is not hosted by CourseInsite®. Click on the class name or info icon for more information.
    • MIX—(Mixed) This class has both a web-based component and an instructor-led component. Click on the class name to view web-based content; click on the info icon for information on the instructor-led component.
  • Credits—The number of credits given for completing the class.
  • Prerequisites—Any classes you must pass before registering for this class. These prerequisites are enforced by CourseInsite® in that you cannot register for a class if you have not taken the prerequisites.
  • Plugins Required—The plugins you will need to view the course content.
  • Price—The amount you must pay to register for the class.
  • Payment Methods—Allowed payment types for this class. For example, credit card or check.
  • Passing %—The lowest percentage score you can receive and still get credit for the class.
  • Contact—An e-mail link to a person you can contact for information about the class.
  • Contact Phone—The phone number for the person you can contact for information about the class.
  • Registration Begins—The first day you can register the class.
  • Registration Ends—The last day you can register for the class.
  • Completion Date or Due Date—The day and time by which you must complete the class.
  • Meeting Dates—The days and times that an instructor-led class meets.
  • Seat Availability—The number of seats available for an instructor-led class.
  • Location of Training—The name of the location for an instructor-led class. The name links to a map.
Printing the Catalog

Complete the following steps to print the Class Catalog:

  1. Click the Print button to go to a printable version of the catalog.
  2. User your browser's Print feature to print the window.
Viewing the Calendar

Click the View Calendar button to see a calendar with all the relevant dates for the classes for which you are registered. See the Calendar topic for more information on using the calendar.
